This pandemic has rocked all of our worlds. And will continue to for some time yet. But, there’s a small ray of light as we start slowly making our way back to some measure of normalcy by re-opening our businesses and our economies. Now the question is; how do you get back to business while still protecting your people?
Balancing business and safety, for now and for the future.
There are going to be a number of precautions taken as part of this new world. This is going to include the continuation of current practices as well as new ones including:
- social distancing in stores
- reduced capacity in restaurants
- split shifts for workers
- working from home
- regular testing for temperature and illness
- more diligent cleaning and disinfecting in facilities
Enhanced cleaning, including professional disinfecting for infection prevention, is going to be the new norm.
Take these steps to ensure your cleaning programs are effective and can provide the safety and protection your people deserve:
#1: No longer will basic “appearance” cleaning be acceptable. Business owners and managers much now have a broader view of how to best protect building occupants through cleaning and disinfecting. And hang on to your boots . . . this may mean spending more to get a better quality cleaning program. Moving forward, budgeting for cleaning that only does that does the bare minimum will be hazardous.
#2: Disinfecting services will be the new norm. The old spray/wipe method will not cut it for many businesses, particularly for high traffic facilities such as arenas, recreations centres and gyms, and for buildings hosting compromised patrons, such as nursing homes. Innovative methods, such as electrostatic disinfecting which provides 100% wrap-around coverage of touch surfaces, is going to be the gold standard in infection prevention and control.
#3: Seek out cleaning and disinfecting professionals. As with any crisis, there is always a flood of fly-by-night companies that start offering in-demand services. This is already happening in the specialized disinfecting arena. Suddenly, everyone is claiming to offer disinfecting. Do your homework. Ensure any company you consider hiring has expertise and credentials in the cleaning and disinfecting field. Ask about their methods, their experience, the type of delivery system and chemicals being used.
COVID19 has brought many issues to light, one of them being the value that cleaning companies and cleaning services provide.
“It is one bright spot—cleaning is getting a much broader awareness and respect,” says Matt Vonachen, director with the ISSA (worldwide cleaning industry association) board of directors . “The community is going to understand the importance of cleaning and how cleaning is tied to healthy people.”
